Time Orders(TO)

Time Orders (TO) are a type of UK housing regulation which have been created to ensure that housing developments are completed within an agreed time frame. They are issued by the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government and are designed to oblige developers to construct, or complete the construction of, developments within a specific time period. TOs are also used to ensure that planning permission granted for housing developments does not become obsolete due to changes in the market or the local environment. They are used to address issues such as a lack of housing, delays in construction and the potential for developers to abandon the project. A Time Order will typically specify the maximum time allowed for the completion of the development, what works must be undertaken in order to satisfy the requirements of the Order and the consequences if the Order is not complied with. The purpose of Time Orders is to protect the public interest and ensure that new housing is provided in a timely manner.
