Tenant-Direct Payment(TDP)

Tenant-Direct Payment (TDP) is a UK government initiative that enables tenants of social housing to receive direct payments of their housing benefit or universal credit to pay their rent instead of their landlord receiving the payments. This means that tenants have greater control over their rental payments and are able to manage their finances more easily. The purpose of TDP is to empower tenants to take responsibility for the payment of their rent and to help them manage their finances more effectively.

The scope of TDP is limited to those tenants who receive housing benefit or universal credit for their rent and who are tenants of social housing landlords, such as local authorities and registered social landlords. TDP does not apply to private landlords or those tenants who do not receive housing benefit or universal credit for their rent.
