Periodic Occupiers(PO)

Periodic Occupiers (PO) is a term used to describe households in the UK that have no secure tenure in their housing. They are tenants who have a tenancy agreement that does not guarantee them a fixed or indefinite length of time in their home. Instead of a fixed-term tenancy agreement, they may have a rolling contract or an agreement which can be terminated by either the landlord or the tenant with as little as one month’s notice. These households can also refer to individuals or families who are living in a property without the explicit permission of the landlord.

The purpose of this classification is to identify households who may be at risk of homelessness. The scope of Periodic Occupiers (PO) includes households who are living in the private rental sector, social housing, or other forms of accommodation, such as squats or bed and breakfast accommodation.
