Community Care Grant(CCG)
A former Social Fund grant that helped people on qualifying benefits with the costs of moving to or staying in independent living.
What it meant
Community Care Grants were non-repayable awards from the discretionary Social Fund. They commonly helped people leaving care or institutional settings — or families under exceptional pressure — with items such as furniture and removal costs when setting up or keeping a home.
What replaced it
In England the grants were abolished in April 2013 and funding passed to individual local authorities, which run their own local welfare assistance schemes with differing names and rules. Scotland and Wales operate national schemes: the Scottish Welfare Fund and the Discretionary Assistance Fund.
