Universal Credit(UC)

Universal Credit (UC) is a UK government welfare benefit that provides a single allowance to people who are on a low income or out of work. It replaces six existing benefits and tax credits, including Child Tax Credit, Working Tax Credit, Housing Benefit, Income Support, income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA) and income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA).

Universal Credit is designed to simplify the benefit system and make it easier for people to move into and stay in work. The allowance is paid monthly and is calculated based on the claimant’s income and other circumstances. It can be used to cover the costs of housing, food, bills, and other living expenses.

The purpose of Universal Credit is to provide a safety net for people who are unemployed, in low-paid jobs, or in need of additional support to help them maintain an acceptable standard of living. The scope of Universal Credit includes providing housing support
