Minute for Recall(MFR)

Minute for Recall (MFR) is a UK housing policy with the purpose of ensuring that council tenants are not evicted without due process. It requires local authorities to adhere to certain procedures before evicting any tenant. Specifically, it requires them to issue a written notice to the tenant at least six weeks before the date of possession proceedings, allowing the tenant to use this time to seek legal advice, discuss their options with the local authority, and make any necessary arrangements. Additionally, the local authority must review the tenant’s situation at least one week before the possession proceedings, and consider any representations or changes in circumstances made by the tenant. If the local authority decides to proceed with possession proceedings, the tenant must be allowed to attend a hearing and make their case to a judge. The scope of MFR is limited to council tenants, and does not apply to other forms of housing such as private rentals.
