Assured Shorthold Tenant(AST)
An Assured Shorthold Tenant (AST) is a type of residential tenancy agreement in the UK, which is currently the most common form of tenancy agreement. It is a legal agreement between a landlord and a tenant that sets out the conditions of a tenancy, such as the rights and responsibilities of both parties, the rent payable and the length of the tenancy. Assured Shorthold Tenancy (AST) agreements are designed to give landlords security and tenants greater protection than other forms of tenancy. The purpose of Assured Shorthold Tenancy is to provide landlords with the legal right to repossess their property and to protect tenants from eviction without reasonable cause. The scope of Assured Shorthold Tenancy covers all types of residential properties, including houses, flats and bedsits. Tenants of ASTs have the right to remain in the property for the length of the tenancy agreement unless the landlord has reasonable grounds for eviction. Tenants also have the right to certain protections such
