Anti-social Behaviour Order(ASBO)

An Anti-social Behaviour Order (ASBO) is a court order issued under the Crime and Disorder Act 1998 in the United Kingdom. The purpose of an ASBO is to protect the public from further anti-social behaviour by prohibiting a person from engaging in specified activities or behaviour that has caused or is likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress to other people. An ASBO is issued by the courts following evidence presented by a local authority or police that the behaviour of an individual has affected the quality of life of other people. The scope of an ASBO can include a wide range of activities such as drinking in public, intimidating people, using loud music, graffiti, misuse of drugs, and other activities that are considered to be a nuisance to the public. An ASBO is primarily used in cases involving housing, such as eviction proceedings, and can be imposed on people living in rented accommodation or those who are the subject of a housing-related court action.
